What They’re Saying About Us

 7/5/2021 - Jennifer P.
I have found Casa Shattuck to be one of the nicest Senior care homes I have ever visited.  The staff treats clients with care, respect, skill, and warmth.
They encourage socialization and brain stimulation with engaging activities.  The facility is spacious and very clean.
If I had a family member needing the best in an Adult Family Home, I would strongly consider Casa Shattuck.

My mother spent the last 10 years of her life in Casa Shattuck and I want to express both my gratitude to the dedicated workers there, but also give it a 5-star rating in the care of the elderly. We always found my mother well cared for. From home – cooked meals to her personal hygiene it was always excellent. It was evident that those that cared for her did not view her as a job, but as a respected member of their family. (They even knew her love of chocolate and would let her have some on a regular basis, but in an appropriated limited amount – since if given her choice that would be all that she would eat). They locked down the facility to visitors when the COVID – 19 Pandemic started before the state mandate. Again, they were looking out for their clients. But to make it easy for us to stay in touch, they facilitated FaceTime get togethers with the family. Again, safe care, but keeping us connected. She died of a stroke this April not related to the COVID – 19 Pandemic. The team that cared for her were visibly shaken. They felt as though they had lost a family member who was a valued part of their community. For excellent physical, mental, and emotional care of your elderly loved one, I highly recommend Casa Shattuck.    -    Robert Wells

This place is wonderful. Aura Circota, the owner, is experienced, capable, and caring. She identifies and meets everyone's needs in a kind and effective way, and hires good caregivers who do the same. The house itself is open (with lots of natural light) and inviting. I have a client who lives here, and I spend several hours a week here with her (and have for the last several months). I've also enjoyed getting to know the other residents and seeing the activities that go on. I'm really happy we found Casa Shattuck! - Rebecca G.

I was a caregiver/CNA at Casa Shattuck and I couldn't ask for a better caregiving job to start me in my journey to healthcare! Aura and her family are the sweetest and most passionate people. She provided me with the tools to be an excellent caregiver there, her strong communication and punctuality made my experience at the care home enriching. Working with the residents you can tell how comfortable and happy they are everyday living at the home. With very clean and excellent facilities Casa Shattuck senior care home is really a loving home that makes you feel like you are part of one big family. - Emmeline W.

Aura, her family and staff provide tender, loving care at Casa Shattuck. I'm a personal trainer and work with seniors in a variety of care homes; Aura's is safe, warm, comfortable, and so welcoming. She's experienced, professional, and highly attuned to the particular needs and desires of her residents, and works hard to make life enjoyable for them. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Casa Shattuck to someone looking for special care for an elder loved one. - Angie D.

My mother in-law has been living at Casa Shattuck since February and we couldn't be happier. The home is lovely and the owner is absolutely wonderful.   She is kind, compassionate and incredibly detail oriented.  She expertly manages the complex needs of my mother in-law and does an excellent job communicating with us. My mother in-law is very happy living at Casa Shattuck and we are all so thankful for the love and outstanding care she receives every day.  -  Erin Barnes

Lovely comfortable home with lots of extras.  My Grandmother moved into Casa Shattuck in October and we feel very lucky to have found such a welcoming home for her care.  The home is lovely, built as a care home with wide hallways and each room has their own 1/2 bath.  (A must have in my grandmother's opinion.) It is lovingly taken care off, with attractive furniture and art, in a quiet neighborhood with great landscaping and outdoor space.  Each room has a large window, with lots of light, and again important to grandma-she is able to keep her room at 75-80 degrees.  (Always wear layers when you visit grandma-grin). Aura and her family do a great job caring for the ladies and provide healthy from scratch meals at a regular schedule.  (My grandmother is a picky eater and often requests special foods that are honored with a smile.)  The house has activities offered every day but Sunday-Exercise, Nail care, Music, (Harp, Piano, and Accordion performances/sing-alongs weekly,) and even a Hair dresser who comes to the home for the ladies.  There is rarely a vacancy at the home, but worth a call to check as I believe it to be the top of family run care homes.  - Jessica Turner

My mom lives in a wonderful, loving home at Casa Shattuck--my sister and I couldn't think of a better, more caring place for her.  She suffers from fairly advanced dementia, and daily care for someone like that can be challenging.  But Aura and her whole family treat her with the utmost respect and love and patience.  It really is a family setting there.  My mom is safe and cared for, like a member of Aura's own family--what more could you ask for?  The house is beautiful, purpose-built for the comfort and care of its residents, and very well maintained.  Cheryl who also works there on the weekends is wonderful, as well.  I would highly recommend Casa Shattuck to anyone who wants to provide the care and love to a family member they would provide themselves if they were able to do so.  Jay Gaines

We are grateful for the loving, patient, and kind care Aura has given to my Mom over the past year, in the most vulnerable part of her life. Aura has developed a deep affectionate bond with her, which helped her be her best self, even as she struggled with memory and anxiety issues. We especially appreciate how she was able to deal so expertly with the messiest of intimate care without losing her temper or blaming Mom for interrupting her sleep or intruding on her family time. It must be a calling to do this work - but Aura reflects a good amount of training and experience. Casa Shattuck provided healthy and delicious meals and treats for the ladies, and the entire house is sparkling clean and attractive. I see this every time I come, no matter what time of day I pop in. This must be very tricky, given the various dietary requirements of the ladies. The daily activity - music, exercises session, games, hair and nails - seem very appropriate for the ladies and certainly help keep moral high. Our Nurse
Practitioner confirms that Aura is in constant communication with her whenever there is the least problem or change with Mom's medical condition. We have seen lots of little issues, like skin conditions and such, heal and go away quickly because she has been right on top of it, keeping her skin clean and protected. When it was time for Hospice, Aura was able to turn to keep Mom as comfortable and well taken care off as possible, even as she was dying. Each little decision (bed or chair? wheelchair or walker? old comfy shoes or new clean ones?) was carefully considered, and she was able to change course if the "right thing" had changed. During the last week, my husband and I felt especially taken care of, ourselves. Aura and Adrian did everything they could think of, to help us cope, even as she was losing someone special to her as well. We highly recommend Casa Shattuck and Aura in particular, and are happy to speak with anyone considering this place for their parent. - Lori and Dave Scott

On behalf of our extended family, I am writing to enthusiastically recommend Aura as a caregiver. Aura takes care of our elderly mother (Mother Sally) and four other residents as the manager of Casa Shattuck Senior Care. Aura helps Mother Sally (who is blind, diabetic, and suffers from dementia) with grooming, dressing, and managing her medications (including daily blood sugar testing and insulin injections). Thanks to Aura, Mother Sally maintains an active lifestyle and often receives complements on her appearance when we are out and about. Aura also keeps an immaculate house and cooks three tasty and healthy meals every day. She amazes us with her Herculean ability to multi-task. Aura is efficient, responsible, dedicated, and very hardworking. She makes it her personal mission to keep our mother's blood sugar at acceptable levels, and ensure that her eye drops and myriad of medications are taken in time. Most importantly, Aura provides loving and compassionate care. She is gentle, kind, and patient. She is passionate about caregiving. She treats our mother and each of the residents at Casa Shattuck with the utmost respect. She gives Mother Sally her dignity by interacting with her as a fellow adult and allowing her to do as much as possible for herself. She provides encouragement and comfort when Mother Sally is frustrated by hallucinations or the inability to remember something. Aura's positive and upbeat attitude always buoys Mother Sally's spirits. Our Mother absolutely adores Aura and her family. Prior to moving to Casa Shattuck, Mother Sally lived at Terwilliger Plaza. Since 2004, we have employed a slew of caregivers from nearly every agency in town. Her already bright spirit has been shining even brighter since Aura took over her care management at Casa Shattuck, and she constantly tells us how happy, loved, and well cared for she is. Without hesitation or reservation we believe that Aura and her staff are one of the very best. We are ever grateful to have her in our lives. - Shannon Hart
